descripção
Suspense - for oboe solo - was composed in 2010 as a study piece for my saxophone quartet Swan which it immediately preceded.
It explores several different processes of accretion then places the results into a kind of montage structure. The music is cast in two long sections, slow then fast, and the piece lasts for approximately seven minutes.
Suspense also exists in a version for soprano saxophone, and it was in that version that it received its premiere performance, given by Rebecca Ellis in October 2010.
